Who are your volunteers?
This
program is run entirely by volunteers
who work year round to raise funds to
bring Camp To Belong, year after year.
If you would like to find out more about
Camp To Belong NW, volunteer, or give a
financial contribution to this effort,
you can visit
www.camptobelong.org, or
email CTBNW Director Karyn Schimmels at
kschimmels@verizon.net. Help give
siblings their right to reunite!!
The volunteer
family consists of a mosaic of
individuals from all walks of life
including former youth in care, foster
and adoptive parents, kinship providers,
Court Appointed Special Advocates,
social workers, IT industry, retired
business entrepreneurs , teachers,
coaches, college students, people who
could not imagine life without their
siblings, stay at home parents and
professionals in other government,
corporate and community service sectors.
The vision was
that of a human dynamo named Lynn Price.
She and her sister had been separated
most of their childhoods in the child
welfare system in Illinois. They missed
out on many years of each other’s lives
and it concerned Lynn Price that this
was often the case with youth involved
in the public welfare system. That’s
what gave her the idea and passion to
bring siblings together
Karyn Schimmels,
the Lynn Price clone (both pictured
here) from Oregon who
spearheads the northwest camp, has put
together a program that is breathtaking
in its ability to provide fun and
bonding in a safe and happy setting. She
has recruited dozens of volunteers – the
ratio of adults to campers is about 2-1
or 3 to 1. There are a lot of adult eyes
watching out for these kids. It gives
the kids a chance to safely create new
and better memories than those with
which they have lived.
